They have been gone over 3 years. Once is the heartbreaking, harrowing but ultimately hope-filled story of Felix, a ten year old Polish Jewish boy living through the Nazi occupation of Poland and the Holocaust. I had made it up. It should be difficult to believe that human beings are capable of such atrocities but somehow, it isn’t that difficult to imagine. I think this one is the most heartbreaking of all though, I couldn’t get through it without shedding some tears. I’m beginning to think that maybe my CIA agent mother had a single copy designed and produced libfo order to help cultivate my imagination.

In some ways I liked the simplicity of this story. The device was a novelty but not intrusive, rather it added freshness.

For a middle school student, this story might be a face-value story about a boy in the Holocaust, but for an older student, this can be a way to quickly examine the plagues of war, such as the loss of life and innocence.

A land where c I fell into Felix’s storytelling pattern with this one This book had me literally tense with suspense.

It was so entertaining as well as endearing to hear his thoughts and views on the world. If you enjoyed the Boy in stripped pyjamas or the Edelweiss Pirate series, you will gletzman this great series by Morris Gleitzman.

It unna be sign that his parents are coming to get him. And that the series ended superbly this way. Once and the two books above are great stories but also explain it in a way that is rewarding to the reader.

So, yes I WAS depressed after reading Once, because of all of the above, but it was actually a pretty neat story.
